Course Description: Bob Jones Pre-Algebra (3rd edition) is a math program designed for middle school students, typically in 7th or 8th grade. It provides a strong foundation in mathematical concepts, preparing students for Algebra 1. This curriculum employs a comprehensive review of operations on integers, fractions, decimals, percentages, radicals and basic statistics, all integrated with a biblical worldview. Students explore relations and functions using equations, tables, and graphs. The program emphasizes problem-solving, critical thinking, and real-world applications of math concepts.
Course Objectives:
- Develop a strong foundation in basic algebraic concepts to prepare for Algebra 1.
- Reinforce operations with integers, fractions, decimals, and percentages for real-world applications.
- Introduce and strengthen equation-solving skills, including one- and two-step equations and inequalities.
- Explore ratios, proportions, and probability to build problem-solving abilities.
- Provide an introduction to geometry concepts, including angles, transformations, and the Pythagorean Theorem.
- Develop graphing skills, including coordinate planes, linear equations, and functions.
- Teach students to apply logical reasoning and critical thinking in mathematical problem-solving.
- Integrate biblical principles by highlighting God’s order and design in mathematics.
- Use a spiral approach to review and reinforce previous concepts for mastery.
- Encourage real-world applications of math in science, business, and daily life.
